Update on the above:

I gave the member in question a chance to explain herself, and advised her to offer the fridge back to its original owner (for free, needless to say!).

She just ignored me, so - for the sake of a small fridge that almost definitely isn't worth what she's asking for it, especially as she's lying about it being new - she's earned herself a ban from Freecycle.

If you ever suspect that she might have rejoined under a different name: please don't assume that the moderators know it's her. Equally, don't assume that we know when someone else is trying to deceive the group. We do try to keep a lookout for these things, but we're only human!

We need you to help us to help you - so, many thanks to all you Gumtree-watchers out there. Keep those eyes peeled!  Shocked Shocked Shocked   biggrin

i said the same thing in a thread months ago lol

i do  think on occasion people can get a wee bit over excited but since i discovered the power of delete my freecycle experience is much better !
there can be a few reasons for messages which appear rude; language barriers, lack of time , new to freecycle etc
i just take everything with a wee pinch of salt now. can be quite amusing sometimes lol

Sorry having a rant here i need to say something before i explode just posted an offer for a bluetooth headset and one reply i got was rather cheeky instead of saying can i be considered for this item all i got was ill pick this up today erm wait a min here i never said you could have it why do some people just assume they are going to be given an item. Just because im giving an item away doesnt mean i have to give it to just anybody especially with an email response like that.

Honestly manners and polite emails go a long way if they want something at least they can do is ask nicely

Sorry rant over

We are dealing with the fridge situation!

Please note: it's better to contact the moderators in private to report these things. Sometimes there's a perfectly innocent explanation, which means you've blackened someone's name unfairly. And if there isn't, the moderators can and do take action.

As for the rules: if you check the guidelines, you'll see that we DO have rules about these things. However, we moderators don't have eyes everywhere and don't have time to spend checking other websites 24/7. We therefore rely on members reporting suspected fraud so that we can act accordingly.

It's kind of like there being laws against theft - they don't stop people trying, they just mean that they can get done for it. And you wouldn't expect the police to lurk in every single shop, on the offchance that someone's about to steal something.  Wink
